Juice cleanses can be controversial, and I think that’s because a lot of the time people misuse them or misunderstand what they’re good for. Juice cleanses can be great for helping stock your body with a bunch of vitamins and nutrients, as well as resetting your body’s sugar levels and giving you a nice kickstart to healthy eating.
Some people like to cleanse prior to events or travel or sometimes even for their own wedding. So I thought I’d test out one of Jusu’s cleanses before my own wedding. I chose to try Jusu Bar’s 3-Day (Easy) Juice Cleanse, aiming to balance out my own sugar levels and help to reset some of my (not so great) eating habits. Jusu Bar offers cleanses from 1-5 days with 6 juices a day.
As I went through this 3-day cleanse, I recorded some notes, and did some extra research so that I could share a bit about the experience, my favourite juices, and some information that will help you decide if this cleanse is right for you!
Here’s what Jusu has to say about their cleanses: “There is no one answer when it comes to living a healthy life. At the end of the day you need to find what is right for your body, your mind, and your overall health. You shouldn’t go into a cleanse with the mindset that you are checking “be healthy” on your to do list. Instead view it as an opportunity to kickstart a new regime, conquer your cravings, or clear your mind and body.”

Here’s a little breakdown of what my experience was like.
But first, a disclaimer: while I love to be active, I can be honest in saying I do not lead a healthy lifestyle when it comes to what I eat. I’ll say it: I am addicted to sugar. (I really love my dessert.) So I knew this cleanse was going to be difficult for me. But I also knew that it was going to be good for me… So as you read through my daily notes just understand, the experience is different for everyone!
Day One
Day one was a bit difficult for me to be honest – I ran around a lot in the morning: picking up the juices, and then prepping & going to this shoot right after. So I was exhausted when I got home – which is a common effect of the cleanse. I ended up taking a nap – which I hadn’t done in months! But I’m not complaining! Sometimes it’s nice to take a break in a busy day.
I woke up quite hungry though. Jusu suggests adding another juice to your cleanse (on top of the normal 6 juices they give you) if you feel like you need more calories/energy in your day. I ended up snacking on 5 or 6 almonds which helped. I think a small handful of nuts is a great way to get rid of some of those cravings.
Day Two
Day two I felt a lot better. My body was kind of getting used to the juices. I wasn’t a big fan of the green juices, but after the 4th one, I started getting used to the taste.
I’ve gone on a cleanse before and had pretty bad headaches (because of sugar withdrawal) so I was pleasantly surprised when I didn’t get any headaches this time around! Wasn’t as fatigued, but I mostly just stayed home and worked all day which helped my energy levels. It would be difficult to do a strenuous workout while on this cleanse for sure.
Day Three
Had a lot of cravings on the morning of day three. My body was really craving some sugar. And I didn’t realize I could actually crave the sensation of chewing haha!
I felt a lot better at the end of the day though. I liked having a timeline and meals/instructions all prepped and ready for me to just drink without much thought or effort on my part. It’s definitely a good way to cut out the sugars “cold turkey”.
Not sure if it was the juices, or how I felt about myself after the cleanse, but I did feel cleaner and healthier. Was excited to get back to chewing my food again though!
My favourite juices!
My very favourite juice in the cleanse has got to be “Dirty lemonade”! It’s made from activated charcoal, lemon, and cane juice crystals, and it’s so delicious! I would totally just drink this juice on it’s own (and I have haha).
This nut mylk drink “Must be Nuts” is perfect for chocolate lovers (like me!) who need a bit of sweetness in their day!
“Double Jointer” is another sweet nut mylk with almonds, that makes it really tasty and filling!

FAQ
from the Jusu Bar faq page
Why are the juices so expensive?
Each Jusu juice contains 4-6 pounds of produce in every bottle. That’s 16-24 SERVINGS of produce. Cold Press Juicing (which gives us a nutrient-rich product) is a slow, hands-on process. Jusu Juice is handcrafted for a long healthy ‘human life’ in mind. Jusu juice is fresh, organic, nutrient rich, colourful and flavourful and therefore only has a 3-day shelf life.
Why are Jusu Bar’s juices “organic”? What does that mean?
There are a few reasons why Jusu Bar chooses to use ONLY 100% certified organic produce. Evidence shows that organic crops contain significantly more vitamins and minerals than conventionally grown crops. Also, juicing produce that has been subject to synthetic fertilizers and chemical biocides found in non-organic produce is like consuming toxins in concentrated form. It is their aim to educate you to drink juice for ultimate health and steer clear of chemical toxins. All certified organic produce has been certified by an agency accredited by the Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
Who should not do a cleanse?
Do not try juice cleanses if you are: pregnant, nursing or trying to conceive, pre-diabetic or diabetic, or are under 18. Cleansing can affect the efficacy of some prescription medications, and you should not cleanse if you have certain active cancers, have liver disease, have hepatitis, have bipolar disorder and/or have allergies to any of the cleanse ingredients. Your doctor will be able to advise you more fully.
