This Elopement in Yoho National Park proves your ‘Plan B’ wedding can be just as amazing as your “Plan A”! Chelsea and Sarah originally planned a destination wedding in Hawaii, but when those plans didn’t work out, they weren’t going to let COVID-19 stop them from getting married. They decided to elope somewhere new, to keep a sense of travel and adventure in their day.

After their ceremony at Takakkaw Falls, Film and Forest Photography guided Chelsea and Sarah on a hike around Emerald Lake where they found a serene lakeside location for portraits, bubbly, & cupcakes! We’re in love with their matching bouquets by Golden Floral Co., which offer the perfect pop of colour against the mountain backdrop.

From the Photographers:

Chelsea and Sarah eloped in Yoho National Park, an underrated part of the Rockies just west of the much more popular Banff National Park. Yoho is known for its towering waterfalls, giant icefields, and the mighty Kicking Horse River. Sarah and Chelsea got married underneath a waterfall, and their marriage commissioner Hans told us this was one of the only ceremonies he’s ever done at this spot in over 30 years of officiating!

For sunset, we hiked along Emerald Lake to the far end of the shore. Emerald Lake is bustling with visitors and landscape photographers, but hiking to the far end meant we had the place to ourselves!

This was the first time these two had been to Yoho, and it was so special to be able to document that experience for them. In the times of COVID, you can still find an adventure of a lifetime right at your own back door.

Advice from the Photographers:

Be flexible with your day and you won’t regret it! We had originally planned a different hike with Sarah and Chelsea for their elopement, but when unannounced construction closed the highway, we pivoted to plan B and were still able to experience a completely new and stunning location for their photos! You never know what what the future holds, especially with COVID, but being able to embrace change and focus on what really matters on the day (marrying your best friend!) means you won’t regret a second of it.
