Bridal Minimalism: Delica Bridal Shares All About New Bridal Trends & Dress Shopping During Covid
This minimalist bridal shoot features chic styling and earthy accents, focusing on the sleek simplicity of modern gowns and the natural beauty of the bride.
We interviewed Nicole and Ashley, the sister duo behind Delica Bridal, to hear their thoughts on current and upcoming bridal trends, favourite local designers, and what their boutique is doing for brides who are dress shopping during Covid.
What are some bridal trends you’re seeing for 2020-2021?
Minimalist bridal gowns will continue to be a big trend for next year. We’re also seeing a more tasteful, modern take on puffy shoulder gowns and off the shoulder gowns. Don’t worry though! We’re not talking about the dreadful 80’s prom dress styles….it’s a more contemporary take on this and trust us, they’ll have you swooning!
Who is one of your favourite minimalist/modern designers right now?
Aesling for sure! Aesling is a new bridal collection from Vancouver (yay Canada!), designed with the modern, minimalist bride in mind. All of their gowns are crepe and they offer several customization options (swapping skirts, adding slits, etc). They are definitely for the more minimalist bride who doesn’t want the extra fuss on her wedding day.
What’s your favourite bridal accessory right now?
You can really make a dress your own, by the way you accessorize it. My favourite accessories right now are statement veils. Dramatic pearl veils, 70’s inspired fringe veils, bohemian 3D floral veils, you name it! We are in love with the Davie and Chiyo pleated veil that we used in the styled shoot. It adds some nice texture and looks amazing paired with a simple crepe gown.
Are you currently taking appointments? What will they be like?
We will be starting to take appointments again starting June 2nd. The main difference is that we will now be open by appointment only to control the amount of people coming in and out of the store. We will be taking one appointment at a time (so you get the entire shop to yourself- bonus!) and spacing out appointments to allow for proper sanitization in between consultations (including steaming the gowns that have been tried on and thoroughly cleaning the store/change-rooms). Things will be a bit different, but we can’t wait to re-open and help our brides find their dress, all while maintaining social distancing of course!
Is wedding dress production getting delayed at all?
We have not seen any significant delays with dress production. So no need to stress!
How long before my wedding do I need to buy my dress?
We would still recommend buying your dress 8-12 months before your wedding date (this timeline takes into account your alterations). Some designers are still offering rushes through COVID, so if you need a dress sooner just be sure to ask about rush availability. We have also moved our sample sale online, so if you need a dress right away, this is a great option to find a dress that you love at a killer price!
