welcome to the

Blog

We love the sense of freshness and invigoration the new year can bring. And with a new year, comes new styling tendencies, colour palette shifts, and updates to current bridal styles! It would be wrong of us, however, to overlook that the biggest shifts in weddings this past year have been caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, and many of the trends this year will be influenced by it as well. But with all those government restrictions, and changing of plans, we found some trends for 2021 that we can absolutely get on board with (and ones we think you’ll love too)!

Love isn’t cancelled! And we can’t wait to see all the beautiful and meaningful love stories that will be celebrated throughout this next year. Here are our predictions for the some of the most popular wedding trends for 2021.

one.

Backyard Weddings

Backyard weddings are #trending, and not just because the venues may be a little more flexible when it comes to Covid restrictions, and rescheduling concerns… but also because couples are beginning to realize more and more how beautiful and meaningful backyard weddings can be!

two.

Personalized Gifting & Welcome Baskets

Credit List: Planning, Design: Laura Richert of Birch & Bunny Weddings and Events // Photo: Juan and Angie Photography // Calligrapher: Debbie Wong Design // Gift Boxes: boxSmith Modern Gifts

Gifting is on the rise now as we haven’t been able to see our friends and extended family in person much lately… so why shouldn’t it be the same for weddings? We love seeing couples gift their guests with a welcome package when they arrive, or brides gifting their ‘maids with cute request boxes!

three.

Mountain Elopements

Whether it be on a mountaintop or at home in your living room, elopements have become more and more popular, especially this year with the restrictions on gatherings. Plus if you live in Western Canada, why wouldn’t you take advantage of the beautiful views we have!

four.

Yellow

Okay so we don’t want to sound like one of THOSE people… but we loved yellow even before it was named Pantone Colour of the year. And now, with that announcement, we can totally see pops of yellow being incorporated in weddings all over this year.

This Azure & Yellow Portugal-Inspired Wedding will be coming to the blog soon!

five.

Short Dresses

With more elopements and intimate weddings comes more brides loving the short wedding dress trend! Whether you’re eloping downtown, or want a second dress for the dinner/reception, short wedding dresses are a trend we can totally get behind!

six.

Live Streaming

With restrictions to gatherings and travel, many guests haven’t been able to attend weddings they would have normally. But thank goodness for technology! We love that so many couples have decided to live stream their ceremony to those that couldn’t make it! It’s a great way to make your guests feel included, even if they couldn’t attend in person.

seven.

Individualized Desserts

Credit List: Planning & Design: Moments By Madeleine // Photography: Corrina Walker Photography // Florals: Flowers By Janie // Venue: The Commons Calgary //Macaron Favours: Yann Haute Pattiserie

Credit List: (left) Photo: Marielle Louize, Dessert: Yvonne’s Delightful Cakes, (right) Photo: Kaity Body, Dessert: Bake My Day

Individual desserts are adorable (I mean, come on!) , customizable (you don’t have to choose cake!), and safer (when it comes to food restrictions). This is a food trend we recommend to all, Covid Wedding or not!

eight.

White Bridal Jackets & Capes

Credit List: (top left) Photo: Murray Clarke, (top right) Jacket from Untamed Petals
(bottom left) cape from Davie & Chiyo, (bottom right) Photo: Kristyn Harder, Styling: Brontë Bride

Blue denim jackets might have been trending these past few years, but we’re predicting an infusion of white leather and bleached denim coming to the scene in a BIG way. Also don’t underestimate the draw of a sheer cape or lace capelet, Those beauties will make you feel like a queen with every single step you take.

With shorter dresses and minimalist silhouettes, there’s a call for a statement jewelry piece, and we are loving this local design trend we’re seeing featuring bold and beautiful statement earrings!
