welcome to the

A lot of couples shy away from winter weddings, opting for a celebration in summer. But with the mass postponing of weddings happening this year, many couples are choosing to postpone to fall/winter of 2020 or select a winter 2021 date. If you’re one of those couples who planned a spring or summer wedding, we understand it can be difficult to visualize your new event in the midst of winter…

But we have to say, we have seen some absolutely breathtaking winter weddings, and they do come with their own special perks!

1. It’s the perfect season for rich tones and textures (it’s time for those bold burgundy hue, luxe emerald tones, and rich velvet textures baby!)

2. Set the mood with romantic moody lighting (Decorate your venue with the simple yet stunning decor of candlelight, string lights, or a combination of both!)

3. Cozy portraits in the snow are just the cutest! (snuggle up to your boo in front of the most perfect white backdrop of fallen snow!)

But don’t just take our word for it! We’re sharing 8 gorgeous winter weddings in Alberta to show you how truly beautiful those winter nuptials and snowy portraits can be. With weddings captured by Heidrich Photography, Kristyn Harder, Film & Forest, Minted Photography, and so many more talented local photographers, you’ll be stunned at all the beautiful winter wonderland inspiration we have right here in Alberta, and maybe even be inspired for your own winter wedding!

From the Photographer:

On February 14, 2019 at Chateau Lake Louise, Mr & Mrs Valentine were wed on a perfect winter day. The whole day was so romantic, starting with their “first touch”, where I captured them embracing one another and taking in the moment without opening their eyes. After the heartfelt and emotional ceremony came a chilly but stunning photoshoot on Lake Louise, which was so worth the cold fingers and toes.Kristyn Harder

From the Bride:

Our wedding was meant to be very relaxed. It wasn’t overly structured as we just wanted our guests to enjoy themselves and have a nice dinner all together. Because our wedding was smaller, most of our guests were our close friends so we really just want to hang out. We chose our venue because of the natural aspects of it and we loved the setting away from the city. We chose winter for our wedding, but still wanted to be able to enjoy outdoor elements.

From the Photographer:

With a full house in attendance, Sam & Neil saw each other for the first time as Sam walked down the aisle. The ceremony commenced at the gorgeous neo-gothic St. Jean Baptiste Church in Morinville. Wanting to have the best of both indoors and outdoor formal photos on a cold blustery day, the Enjoy Centre served as our industrial modern background where Sam’s bridesmaids dresses made the backdrop feel sleek yet classic with their rich shades of black, and for the outdoor formal photos, the ladies draped themselves in green blankets and Sam a white fur shawl lending warmth and a soft yet elevated feel. The bouquets, composed of white and green, were the perfect contrast to the black dresses and the monochrome palette gave texture to the snowy background. The gents dressed in charcoal grey suits which allowed Neil to shine in his classic black suit.Pam Kriangkum

When Garrett and I pictured our wedding day, we pictured exactly this; being surrounded by our closest family and friends.

On a chilly New Year’s Eve, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon we tied the knot in an outdoor ceremony with 140 of our closest family and friends. The setting was breathtaking; the spectacular Three Sisters mountain range at Silvertip Resort in Canmore.

We felt so loved that so many people wanted to be part of our special day. We chose to have a winter wedding because the mountains in the winter are unbelievably beautiful.
